The embedded library is the "go-to" source for bringing in external content such as images for use in object settings or attributes (surfaces). It is also key in storing custom objects specific to the project needs. These may be custom built GDL elements or downloaded from outside sources, such as BIM components, BIM Object, Modlar, or even Sketchup Warehouse.
BIM Server Libraries are at the core of good library management practices. A BIM server library is simply a library folder structure that has been loaded to the BIM server for access by teamwork of solo projects. Changes to the folder structure can then be updated to the BIM Server by opening the Server Library Manager from any ARCHICAD application that has access to the folder structure and the BIM Server. Go to File > Libraries and Objects > Manage BIM Cloud/BIM Server Libraries... to access the controls for uploading/refreshing/relinking BIM Server Libraries.
In my experience, the ArchiCAD libraries work for about 10-25% of the content placed into a custom residential project. The remaining 75-90% comes from custom built, saved or downloaded content. For content that can be used universally on multiple projects these should be saved into a folder structure and uploaded to the BIM server. The folder structure for the Office Library should match the ArchiCAD Standard Libraries, so that as you are searching for an element in the Object Selection Settings, you will have no problem finding it; everything is familiar and in parody with ARCHICAD's native organization.
